So I lied.....

I still have to go to the dentist 3 more times and to their lab once.

Well, one of the crowns I was to get today left too much of a space between itself and the tooth next too it and they weren't quite the right shade. So...I go back in 2 weeks to put the crowns on (not cemented in) and then go a few blocks to their lab so they can see what they need to adjust.

Then I wait for them to make the adjustments.

Then I go back for my 2nd dentist visit that day to have them cemented on.

Then there is still that appointment in May that I have to come back for.

My 30 minute appointment turned into 2 hours today because I had to see 2 different dentists and work around the issues.

Have I mentioned that I spend a lot of time at the dentist?

:) Oh well, at least I can afford to fix my teeth.

2 visits to go...

I have lived a portion of my life at the dentist's office...I was not blessed with good teeth genes. I got a lot of work done while I was in Iowa but never got some temporary crowns replaced with permanent. Then while I was living here, I apparently fractured a tooth way up in my gumline and after a year of trying to treat it for other things (it was such a small fracture, they couldn't tell for sure if that's what actually was the problem) and painful flare ups, we decided the best course was to have it pulled. The process of putting in an implant where that tooth was and permanently capping the teeth next to it has been no easy ordeal.

But finally, I am almost done with my second round.I go today to get the permanent crowns and have to come back to Virginia sometime in May to have my implant finished (the site has to heal from my surgery before they can finish). So only 2 fairly painless visits to go in this round...thank goodness...this round has NOT been cheap. Thank goodness for flexible spending accounts to help us save the money.

The Cora Project

My friend, Becky posted a while back about a family who found out their young daughter had cancer. The little girl passed away less than 3.5 weeks from her diagnosis, before her 1st birthday. It's a heart wrenching story...People read their story and have started donating part of their own proceeds on Esty that will help go toward building a playground in the little girl's honor.

As you look for unique gifts to buy for family and friends this year, consider buying from the Cora store.

Waterloo

So here are the answers to some questions I've been asked about the move and the job:

The house is in Waterloo (50701) off of 20 & 63

I will be working Wed, Thurs, Fri and Sat probably 2pm-10pm--it's still a bit up in the air. This probably means I will go to work at 1pm and leave at like 11pm or 12am .. who knows what it will actually be...(Not a bad shift at all, compared to the 4am arrivals home I used to have, but UGH, I will miss the UNI football games..but will probably take time off to see a few of them...)

The house is about 6 minutes from work vs. the 25 minutes I drive now. Brad's commute will hopefully be 5 seconds vs. the 45 minutes he drives now.

It's about 25 minutes from my parents, my grandparents, and Brad's dad (our hometown)

We'll be about 35 minutes from my sister and her family & 50 minutes from Brad's sister and her family.

From June-September we will be going through start up and I'll be eating, sleeping, and working and doing pretty much nothing else.

I will go to Minneapolis and get some training; there will also be people that come to Cedar Falls to train us. I will also get to Florida for training at some point this spring.

Any thing else I missed?

Open House

Two people came during the open house. One couple loved it, I guess, but won't know for 4 weeks if they can move. Then we had another showing tonight. Everyone has great feedback about the house, there's always just one thing...Everyone who has been through says that it shows GREAT....I'm convinced we've got everything in place the right way and that we're just waiting for the right people to walk through the door. When it's meant to be, it will happen.

Till then, we just keep the house REALLY clean!

One month, really?

I cannot believe that we are leaving Virginia one month from today. Wow. I'm still a bundle of mixed feelings, depending on the day. Still ecstatic for the career opportunity, still horribly sad to leave the area and our Virginia family. The plan is to leave Virginia the afternoon of 3/22 after the Shamrock 1/2 marathon and lunch, which will put us in Waterloo late 3/23. I have to be at work on 3/25 so that will give me one day before to rest after the drive.

Brad is still waiting to hear for sure if he will be able to keep his job at Supervalu. Almost all of the work he does, can be done remotely and there are 2 other people here that have agreed to do the parts that he can't. It actually would work out great, because the part that he likes and could do from there, it sounds like they don't really like to do anyway. So it would be a great situation. It sounds like, so far, there hasn't been any opposition, and we're crossing our fingers that he will hear something definite this coming week.

Today we have another open house so Brad is finishing up a few things and I'm getting ready to go to the gym. We haven't had any additional showings since the one on Monday, so we're hoping to get some traffic today.

On the other end, things are moving along on the house in Waterloo. Steve has been great, even though I can be a bit neurotic when it comes to this process....ok, more neurotic than usual. When we bought our first house, I was so nervous about signing all of that paperwork that I didn't understand, that I made Linda, our realtor and Tim, our financing guy give me a quick rundown of every single paper we were signing. Then Tim showed up to our closing, I think more to make sure I didn't have a nervous breakdown. So Steve, if you read this, you got me on round 2! Be glad you weren't there for the first round!

There has been so much to do, but all of the people involved have been great so that has made it a lot easier. Now we are starting to go through our things and decide what else we don't want. Now that we know what we will be moving into. The next couple of weeks should be a little break from paperwork and more about getting ourselves organized.

Wow...a month...I still can't believe it...where did the last 8 years go?

Mexican Restaurant!

That's the thing I was missing from my list yesterday! downtown has a mexican place!

Productive Day

This morning our realtor in Iowa, Steve, took us to the work out places in town and to see downtown Cedar Falls, which has changed quite a bit since we last lived here. I was happy to see it has at least one of each of the following:

sushi bar (i eat the other stuff on the menu. but i have friends who love sushi)
sports bar
martini & tapas bar
wine & cheese place
coffee shop
comedy club
place for live bands
I'm missing something......

Then we headed back to Steve's office so I could make calls related to home buying, financing and relocating and to fill out my Mt. Everest of paperwork....and Brad worked. Then we headed to Grundy to have dinner with Mom and Dad, Brad's Dad, and my sister Jessica's family. We took some cute pics that I will post later. It was a nice time....

I only wish we would have been able to find a house in Cedar Falls...however, after today's discoveries downtown, i may survive. We'll only be 10 minutes or so from the bustling metropolis that is downtown 50613.

Tomorrow we head home...I hope that United does not have alternate plans for us, as they did on Monday.

The financial crisis

I heard the best line tonight on Jay Leno. I missed the very first part, but it went something like this:

Trying to ask the bankers to get us out of the financial crisis is like sending OJ to find the real killer.

Priceless

New House!

Well, our house hunt was successful. Our agent hit the nail on the head with the first house. We looked at lots of other houses, but we came back to the very first one!

The house is really well built...much better than the other houses we saw this week. It's a 5 year old house with oak throughout. That's not my favorite wood, as I think the house would look nicer with darker wood; but the features that we loved about the house more than outweigh that.

Also, we need to do some painting and I'd like to update a couple of things.

But all in all, it's a fabulous house! It has a GREAT kitchen that opens to a dining area that opens to the living room. Great for entertaining! There is a fireplace, deck, a fenced in backyard, shed, 3 car garage with a heater, and a doggie door.

The basement is fully finished and GREAT! It's a huge area with a closed off storage room, huge bedroom, and full bath.

The house is actually so much nicer than the pictures make it out to be. I can't wait to do a couple of things to it and make it our own.

It has PLENTY of room for visitors! The weather is beautiful in Iowa in spring, summer, and fall. In the winter, I will be visiting the rest of you!!

I created a page on Shutterfly because it's easier to post a lot of picturess there.

Tiredddddddddddddddddd

Oh my gosh....

Between oral surgery, de-cluttering the house for staging, trying to coordinate the home inspection, relocation company, moving company, actual movers home survey, realtors here, realtors in Iowa, looking for houses, planting flowers, trimming the landscaping, reserving our super awesome neighbor dog sitters for next week, battling with the dealership that's fixing my car who is really starting to irritate the crap out of me, airline and car reservations for house hunting, the pest control people, the mortgage people, Danijel our fabulous financial guy, trying to decide what day we can get to Iowa, coordinating the cleaning lady, signing my life away and oh yeah, still doing my actual job which doesn't involve any of the above and paying bills and grocery shopping......whew..................over the last 1.5 weeks, I am beat.

I still have a list of things to finish tonight and tomorrow night before the house goes on the market on Friday

oh, and my new glasses lens is ready, so are my contacts and I haven't picked them up yet....and I have somehow fit a few runs in....

holy crap...I'm going to pass out on Saturday and on Sunday, I don't think I'm doing ANYTHING except read my book and clip coupons.

I have 57 minutes left before bedtime...gotta move!

Polar Plunge

Freezing? yes!
Crazy? yes?
Do it again? of course! Except now I know what kind of pain to expect when entering water that cold...wow...I would have gone in farther, but it was shocking how much it actually hurts! I wasn't expecting it to be quite that bad.

So long story short...they had the "plunging area" fenced off and we thought only plungers could go in there, so we didn't get any pictures of anyone coming out or going in....Tana happened to see Brad when we got out so she got a picture of him. He was with his Farm Fresh group, so unfortunately, no pictures of the rest of us all wet!

Some people dressed up in crazy costumes

Brad after his plunge

Me afterwards...Normally I would have been freezing at this point...but after being in the water...it was all relative!

Leaving Virginia

So you may have head by now that we are moving! It's a very, very bittersweet move. On one hand, most people know how much I LOVE living in Virginia. I love this area, how close it is to other places I love, the weather is awesome, we have sooo many friends here that have become our family and we will miss very, very much.We have finally settled into the house we have and made it our own....

I am still working for Target and we are opening a new food distribution center in Cedar Falls (for those who live there, it's right next to the other distribution center that's already there). They need people to transfer and help open the building and there was an opening that would be a great next step in my career, would allow me to be part of something fast paced, pivotal in our company's history, and to work with some of the best people in our company. The more I looked into it, the more it started to become clear that this was great timing for us. We knew we would have to move if I stayed with Target and we wanted to move back toward the Midwest and spend some time near family if we were going to have to leave Virginia. I found out a week ago that I got the job!! I have to be in Iowa the week of March 22nd, and we are still working out the details of what days we move...

I find myself feeling more emotions this time than when we moved from Iowa. When we left there, I firmly felt that the transfer with the company I worked for was an opportunity we needed to take and get out of the area for a time. We needed to seize the opportunity to experience what was outside those borders. Everyone who found out we were moving was shocked that we would move because almost every member of our families lived there. I remember telling them...Iowa will still be there if we want to come back. As much as I love my family and friends there, I can honestly say, in almost 8 years, I've only had a few moments of wanting to be back. I love Virginia and love living here.

In the fall of 2008 and I needed to make a decision what the next step in my career would be, knowing it could take me back to the Midwest. We didn't want to go somewhere else far away from family if we couldn't stay here....We wanted the Midwest or VA...When this came up, it was obvious it was the right move. While I'm ready for the challenge in my work and more excited than I can explain about being part of this new building and what it means for our company, I find the opposite is true in my personal life. Please don't get me wrong. I am so overwhelmed with excitement about this move in my career and count my blessings daily about how fortunate I am to have been chosen to go. It's just that every day I battle with how excited I am and then how sad I am to leave a place I love so much.

This afternoon I was out landscaping the yard and this song came on my iPod by Nickelback, one of my favorite bands....It really hits home for me about having to take chances in your life and how hard the first step is. It's like this part of my life has come full circle. Those last few days in Iowa in 2001 were the hardest, leaving all of our family behind. And I'm finding that the next 45 days will be even harder. But I remember that my gut told me it was the right thing...it tells me that this is the right thing, too.

My best friend gave me the best advice
He said each day's a gift and not a given right
Leave no stone unturned, leave your fears behind
And try to take the path less traveled by
That first step you take is the longest stride

If today was your last day and tomorrow was too late
Could you say goodbye to yesterday?
Would you live each moment like your last?
Leave old pictures in the past
Donate every dime you have?
If today was your last day

Against the grain should be a way of life
What's worth the prize is always worth the fight
Every second counts 'cause there's no second try
So live like you'll never live it twice
Don't take the free ride in your own life

If today was your last day and tomorrow was too late
Could you say goodbye to yesterday?
Would you live each moment like your last?
Leave old pictures in the past
Donate every dime you have?
Would you call old friends you never see?
Reminisce of memories
Would you forgive your enemies?
Would you find that one you're dreamin' of?
Swear up and down to God above
That you finally fall in love
If today was your last day

If today was your last day
Would you make your mark by mending a broken heart?
You know it's never too late to shoot for the stars
Regardless of who you are

So do whatever it takes
'Cause you can't rewind a moment in this life
Let nothin' stand in your way
Cause the hands of time are never on your side

If today was your last day and
tomorrow was too late
Could you say goodbye to yesterday?

Would you live each moment like your last?
Leave old pictures in the past
Donate every dime you have?
Would you call old friends you never see?
Reminisce of memories
Would you forgive your enemies?
Would you find that one you're dreamin' of?
Swear up and down to God above

That you finally fall in love
If today was your last day

If your kids don't want to brush their teeth

Send them over to talk to their Auntie Dre...

I'll share with them that even though I have always brushed my teeth regularly, I have had numerous crowns, root canals, a couple of extractions, and 4 teeth break.

I'll also share that my 2nd oral surgery 3 months ago was to cut into my gumline and raise it higher, pull a tooth and do a bone graft..yes, a bone graft. That day was a horribly painful day.

Then I'll fast forward to today when I had a hole drilled into my jaw...yes, a real drill...and then a titanium screw torqued into my jaw. Now I can't chew on that side of my mouth for a month...Yes, A MONTH.

I'd hate to find out where I'd be if I hadn't brushed me teeth all these years! I'll scare the crap out of them so they start carrying their toothbrush and toothpaste everywhere they go.

End of day

The day ended better than it started.

Work went fairly well.

I ran afer work -- it was COLD (note: not freezing or frigid-those are words only allowed in Iowa or Minnesota)

Brad let me order Mexican for dinner since I will have to eat a liquid diet tomorrow night

Brad took me to the mall to get my glasses thing resolved. Apparently the scratch I have happens sometimes when they make them...I have to wait ANOTHER week to get the new lens.

Then went grocery shopping with me so I could take advantage of double coupon Wednesday. Instead of spending $37.09, I spent $21.00; and had coupons for everything I bought except the orange juice. If I took out the OJ, I saved almost 50%. It wasn't the highest savings I have ever had, but I'm still very happy because I used the sale ad + coupons to buy things that were very discounted.

And .... the New Kids are coming to Richmond in March - Yes, I'm going... Yes, I know you want to, too :) Can I get a "hangin' tough!"?

Rough Start

Today has been a rough start already...well, actually it started yesterday....I had a dentist appt at 8am, which should have taken 2 hours....It took almost 3 and I was still totally numb by the time I should have gone to work. So I went to drop off prescription and that took 20 minutes...just to drop it off.

So I was late getting to work..and then of course, late getting out of there. I booked it to the mall because my new glasses were ready and I ran, literally through JCPenney to get there 5 minutes before they closed. They were perfect - too perfect. They hardly had to adjust them or anything....wait for it...there's a catch.

I get back to the car and it won't start. I'm alone, in the dark mall parking lot, the car is dead and I have to pee...really, really bad. My phone is blinking at me that it's going to die any second and through all of this, work is trying to call me because we went down and production stopped (that's bad). So I call Brad and he is going to try and come get me...don't know what we will do about the car, because the jumper cables are in my car, which is 30 minutes away getting fixed at the dealership from the accident that I got in. So I'm dancing in my seat trying not to wet myself and I try ONE more time...it starts! So I rush home and try not to think of anything water related until get there.

I then have to jump on the phone with work, which was fine, but I was trying to unwind so I could get to bed and get up at 5am to go to the gym to run. And when I'm doing work, I'm definitely not unwinding. Then my work computer flashes at me at tells me that I have Trojan Horse - some kind of virus. I get an email from our IT department that says get off this computer and get off now until I can have it reloaded. Great..now I can't finish my work.

While I'm on the computer, it looks like I have a hair on my glasses because I definitely can see something there...I take them off and look closely...huge, deep scratch...WHAT?! I have had them for LESS than 1.5 hours...And I haven't done anything in that 90 minutes that would cause THAT. I knew it was too good to be true when I picked them up

So I finally go to bed...get up, get dressed and get the car loaded with my work and gym junk. I try to start the car and it doesn't turn over right away...I try again...dead....as a doornail...again.

So I have unpacked everything I packed in the car and will have to wait for my carpool buddy, Michael to finish his gym workout and come pick me up.

And to top off my irritation, the paper person is late and the grocery ad comes out today..ugh.

Now tonight, I now have to fit in my workout, taking the car to the doctor, dinner, taking my scratched glasses back, and a trip to the grocery store.

Then tomorrow afternoon, I get to go back to the dentist for round 2 of oral surgery..I wanted to avoid doing it this week because I am packed with stuff this week, and trying to catch up on some things at work, but they couldn't get me in until March 5 if I waited..so tomorrow it is. A fabulous Thursday to round out a fabulous week...ugh.

So I realize that there are so many worse problems in the world, I just wonder sometimes why things have to be harder than they need to be and why my genes decided it would be fun to torture me with dental procedures and oral surgeries my whole life....

Is it Friday yet?!

Ugh

I really thought the Cards were going to pull it out...What a heartbreaker...When they scored with still 2:35 on the clock, I knew it was too much time...That's a lot of time for Big Ben to do damage ... I was so wired from the excitement, it took me like 2 hours to be able to get ready for bed. It's been a while since I've been that excited and jumping around over a sporting event like I was last night. My sister, TIff called me when they scored that last TD and I couldn't breathe, let alone talk to her...it was so much fun!

I hope Kurt doesn't retire...I hope it gives it another try or two...I just love watching him play too much. Selfish, I know...

Super Bowl Sunday

Here we are. The big day. Brad has pulled out his Steeler blanket, hats, coats, towels, t-shirt, musical football and has them all over the living room. I have on my Kurt Warner jersey and that's about it... He's trying to set me up for a big whoopin'...telling me how realistic it is that the Cardinal offensive line will not survive the defensive Steel curtain, which will in turn force Warner to throw 5 turnovers, lose the game, resulting in him not getting into the Hall of Fame. Ok, whatever...I hear him, as Troy Polamalu is one of my favorite players, but nope...I'm going against the grain on this one.

This morning, I started the day at the salon, getting my hair cut. Then I went to Panera for lunch, then stopped at Lowes and the post office before coming home.

The weather here is ridiculous...it's 60 degrees...I should probably go out and run, but first, I'm going to go get a pedicure...I've come to love them and have put it off for way longer than I should...today is a flip flop day so it's only fitting. Brad's taking the dogs to the dog park with Dave and Christian and company...I'm going to the nail place..

I think when I come back, I will head out to run before the game.
